On Borrowed Strength

Last night, I made my way to a local place that had a weekly legacy tournament.
I originally wanted to get a storm deck but couldn't really get the key components. I ended up borrowing Merfolk from the organizer, slightly tweaked with more borrowed cards.

I made 3-0 and split at the last round, with my opponent getting $60 and I gave $20 to the organizer and had $50 of store credits which I got some basic storm components and left $10 in for next time.

I didn't know I could get a dual land if I didn't split. :( I'd take the dual for sure but it's ok for my first try. :)

I like Djinns

I have tried going through the Vintage Burning Long deck, modified to its previous iteration with 4x LEDs with 2x Mind's Desire over the md and sb and also a Legacy heavy ritual list that also runs Burning Wish.

Storm is a very odd deck to run because it collapses very easily to misplay more often than to inferior strategy, especially under a given amount of stress and uncertainty.
I think I will be dabbling with the Legacy iteration more so that I can get a better feel for what I would need in order to make the Classic version more powerful than it is now.

The Vintage version is more focused on the raw power of draw 7s while the Legacy version draws its strength from the breadth of the format that is less able to react to the way the deck plays out. The Classic version should sit somewhere closer to the Legacy version but I need more feel of the deck before I can maximize the deck at the deck level and the play level. I hope to make a real life version soon. :)

Guess what

I was designing a legacy deck yesterday and today, as I made one of my rare trips to the shop where I bought my mtg comic of Dack Faydon I noticed that one of the promos was this card I wanted to use:

See the right card. When I saw it, I immediately asked if they had more but they were sold out. Weren't Standstills worth quite a fair bit? I was definitely elated to see the promo there but I felt like I was too far behind on irl news.

Anyway, here's the card
